Thinking of dropping some coin on a mint older style gold one. Like to toss #3 spinners on 8 lb mono while avoiding spinning rods.

Anyone run one of these, opinions?

Had a super free Curado 200 I used for a season or two, but it's been years.

Are you looking for the best reel to toss light weight? Or do you just want one of the older Chronarchs

I do enjoy fishing older gear, hopefully kill two birds.

Have another baitcaster in mind?

The frog giggers like the 50 size for very light baits.
Core, Chronarch or the Scorpion, Metanium from the JDM.
You need good bearings and an extremely light, large arbor spool.

My 200's with small arbor and all that line do not spin up quick enough for very light baits.
Sometimes I want to toss a #3 but it ain't going to fly like a #4.

Line capacity with the 50's might not be enough for steelies.
Might be OK for steelies in small water, though.

From researching on Tackle Tour the 100 size w/ the large wiffle spool & super free gearing is the best light lure baitcaster from Shimano.

But that was a 2003 article......lol

Shimano just came out withe the new Aldeberan. It's pricy but you can find them for a pretty good deal on eBay. They're a 50 size reel so as far as line capacity you'll get over 100 yds of 10lb or if you use thin braid you'll get even more. I know of a few others that would get the job done too.

Might just strip the PP off a Daiwa Viento line up w 8 lb ultragreen. If I remember correctly, that little magnet reel tosses light lures well.

Kinda depends on the action of the rod Bradley.... my two summer rods are fast action, 1262c xmg and a 1142c xmg built by DCR and can cast #3 spinners a mile with #10 mono with my bantams of choice

Batson RX7 1142c

I'd call it a moderate action rated 6-10. Most guys build side drifting spin rods on this blank, I didn’t.

Was thinking the deep load + small lure + light line just begs for a free spinning baitcaster. Not stuck on a Chronarch, something 100 size that's light & great @ casting the small stuff.

Caught some river chums on it last 2 years rigged as a float rod, it's a hoot.

The older style red Fuego's are going for $90-100. The mint Chronarch I was shopping is about to bust into the $300 bracket....lol

Best of the lightweight casters from "older gear" would be the Chronarch 50mg. If you want something more current, Chronarch 50e super tuned with orange seal Boca bearings. Between the two I'd still pick the 50mg - sweet little reel that casts the light stuff amazingly well.
