Thanks for bringing this subject up Chip, it was also one of my favorite fisheries.

This thread makes me sad. Sad for the lost fishery and sad for old man boners. Hopefully I can BM fish again before the old man boner sets in. Remember to clean your rod daily for optimal performance.

GLU Great looking fish. I'm talking way back past recent years though. Think the 80's. Yeah I've only heard tale of such things. I never got a chance to fish it before the major cuts to the Blackmouth program were initiated. It really is a shame, for sure. Bluebird days in the dead of winter are hands down my favorite days to be out on the sound. The blackmouth were so plentiful back then that we used to catch them off of shore and docks if it was too rough to take the boat out. We'd use a Herring strip with no weight other then a swivel and a single hook. Cast it out and leave the bail open and wait for the line to take off. Never caught anything over 8 lbs doing that but it was great fun on a trout rod with a spinning reel. Myself and another board member spent many winter days doing that. SF

In junior high and high school we would spend our Saturdays on the Fox Island dock and do that exact thing... when we got tired of casting off the dock we would walk the beach catching coho's on spoons... Damn there were a lot of fish around then...

Numbers used to be crazy. Had boat dry docked at Narrows Marina 1985-90. I remember one Thanksgiving, drift mooching cut plugs under the Narrows bridge on the East side. The faster you could get it down the bigger the fish were. They would slack line you on the way down. Tons of 8#ers. Would sort release for the biggest. Got my biggest that day to date, 16.5#. Down hill ever since. I don't think any exist any more this far South? Not making the South Sound pens work was a big disappointment. But then, at least you could locally go Steelheading if the weather Fd you. Today neither choice is available. Never would have guessed it would happen in my lifetime, but it has, so sad.

Anyone have any area 7 BM reports. I have an invite tomorrow out of Cap Sante and wondering if it's worth the drive?

I hear you. John.
Last week my new kicker was ripped off the back of the boat by tweakers. I'm thinking of moving to the Oregon Coast before I do something drastic. I don't want to stress out and revert back to the mindset I had in the service. But the frustration level might go down if I catch one. Put a head on a pole at the entrance to my driveway.

Chip, that's awesome! I'm a proponent of fresh fish always.....(everyone should be).......and that my friend signifies freshness to the umph! Bled, gutted and on ice..........Prime product! Cool pic.....cooled by nature...........great photo! Anybody that gets to indulge in your fish are lucky indeed. Merry Christmas all, chuck
