I was reading about rags and how to make them. The look intersting to say the least. When using them would I place bait on the hook or just toss them in like that? And what is the rigging to use on them? |

Dcrzfiter, Thanks once again. I have a few new jig patterns that I am going to send ya, I know it is a little late for summer runs, or is it? but email me your address again and I will get them out to ya. As far as my rags go, I have been fooling around with some sparkle crap that is mixed in with the yarn. Not sure if it is going to make a whole lot of difference, but they just look cooler, hehe. If anyone is interested in jigs give me a hollar at answer@techline.com Thanks, Andy Matthews http://The_Steelhead_Solution.homestead.com

I have recently been making my rags out of Popper foam rather than closed cell foam, it is a little more durable, and seems to hold scent a little better, does anyone else do this? It is a little more expensive, but they hold up great.

R&R, Popper Foam can be found in your local Fly Shop, it is used to make popper flies. It is a very dense closed cell foam. I found the stuff I use in a fly shop in Eugene.

You guys know those 6ft. long colored foam cylinders you see kids playing with when they are swimming? Well they make a great source of bright colored foam for making raggs. I've found bright pink, royal blue, lavender, yellow, and green so far.

Cromwell,Use a shrimp tail with the rag in colored to slightly colored water. Thread the shrimp tail and secure it under the bumper (egg loop). When the water is clear try an aerofly. I've used both for winter runs and use rags for big presentations and down size to an aerfly when the water clears up. Very successful.
