Just saw the recent update for Fraser sockeye. The update for all 2016 stocks is a cumulative 800K or so. If this holds it will be the lowest since records are available (1893). The '16 cycle is the lowest of the 4 but averages over 3 million.

Then, to add insult to injury the Fraser flow is down and temperatures are up.

Great news... Do get the 800K on the Sockeye stocks after that incredible year with 26 million a few years ago. Tide runs in the tide runs out but the high water temps in the last two years are not beneficial. There goes that getaway trip I was planning in early October on the Fraser I'll still probably go though. A Montana website posted an article about Montana FW&P shutting down the Yellowstone from Gardiner way down river today due to a fish kill by parasites :-/ Is there anywhere to fish these days?

The runs on the Fraser are not that well correlated to each other. Each lake has a separate stock, and each stock has 4 brood cycles since the fish are primarily 4 years old.

There is a dominant cycle-the really big one, the sub-dominant which is of modest size, and off. In some cases, the dominant may be in the millions while the off may be in the hundreds.

The reasons are not well understood. But, that is why this cycle (2000, 04, 08, 12, 16) is the lowest of the 4. Pretty sure the recent high run was not this cycle. So, there is some hope that when that one comes back there may be quite a few fish but the '14 cycle is gonna need work to get back to fishing levels.
