I've been a huge football fan my entire life and watch about all the games I can. My buddies have begged me for years to join their FF league and they finally talked me into it this year after years of reluctance.
So far I am kinda disgusted. The amount of time and planning that goes into winning is shocking. The fact that a lot of the good players in fantasy score points in garbage time bothers me. Some of the worst QBs are the best fantasy QBs. It is very addicting but I don't like the intensity it can bring to Sunday's when otherwise I already have a heart attack watching the Hawks game I don't need a heart attack every game.
When I used to play actual sports, when I would lose I would know I had ran til I puked and did my very best. When I lose at fantasy it feels like I wasted a [Bleeeeep!] load of time and isn't a good feeling.
So I'm curious how many of you partake in FF and how you manage it. Do you think all this time matters? Is it mostly luck during the draft? The whole thing kinda blows my mind because it doesn't seem to be productive or even fun. It's just nerdy with some potential or glory. Very different than I expected and honestly I don't need it to watch football at all.

Haha - I have a FF team "The Chunder Eagles". I play in a 10 team league and honestly it is pretty fun for me. It is totally nerdy but it has it's good points (and I'm a nerd). The best part for me is just that it makes that many more games on Sunday interesting. Plus it is fun to watch all the best players in the league.
I think it comes down to personality types. If you are super competitive, FF is probably a drain. Some of the dudes in my league wake up every Wed night after waivers at 1 am to make their free agent grabs. They also get really pissed off when they lose. I don't take it too seriously even though I won the league last year.
There is a ton of luck involved. Basically, can you draft players who stay healthy. But I have noticed over the years that guys who have a consistently good team are always the same guys. They just pay closer attention.
It is really hard to come into an existing league with experienced players, I guarantee that your second year team will be way better. The key in the draft is to know what you want in your team and just stay on script.
My favorite thing about FF is the Draft. Ours is a full weekend of debauchery.

Well I didn't even make it a season before quitting. My score was worse and worse every week despite trying to improve with a shameless amount of scheming. All the top teams with lots of experience and wins were getting all the best players off the waiver wire, which seems very unfair. They all had the stars locked on their bench and so I was dead from the get go.
Seems like a stupid waste of time in the end, where the experts just bring people in to lay waste to them. It got to the point that it was making my Sunday less fun and I say fuk that so I'm done.
Don't waste your time on fantasy unless maybe your league starts from scratch. The league I was in would clearly take an irresponsible amount of time to have a chance at winning plus most of the people in it are in multiple leagues so they are straight addicts. I'm taking my Sunday back, I don't need this [Bleeeeep!] to watch football.
They even said I should stay, "for the love of the game". Lol.

I love the tap tap tap BAM! Drift fishing is something that has become a lost art. IMO, this technique is one of the hardest to master and once mastered yields the greatest results. Low/clear the float will clean house. And......fantasy football sucks

Yup, I have lowered my catching ratio a lot by being stubborn and drift fishing exclusively over the years. Now, after Steelhead fishing for over 30 years I've caught enough to not worry about numbers.
In fact I think I'm going to stop fishing for wild Steelhead. I no longer want to be part of the problem harassing these fish due to low numbers. Again, I've been fortunate to catch some real nice trophies over the years, memories are good enough. I don't think I'll have any regrets.
I've never bought into the mortality rates of catch and release....just a gut feeling, nothing scientific. I have just as much fun in the summer fishing my Sage fly rod 3 weight for trout on the south fork of the snoqualmie wading in tennis shoes fishing Adam flies.
