Any word on them 'Nookies showing in the Satsop? Not too familiar with the river, and I know there are limited launches, is the best drift for us Drift Boaters from Schaefer Park down to the Hwy 12 bridge?
(Just realized I had the wrong Hwy running through that area, sorry!)

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Kev,

You can drift from Schaeffer park down, or just down from the Turnow branch (below the park) at Cook Creek. Cook creek is a rough launch right along the road that parallels the east fork (I'm sure you'll see the rigs parked there). In either case, there's not enough water there now to drift. If you don't feel like dragging all day, look for the water to be around 700 cfs or above.

The satsop came up to around 900 cfs over the weekend but it was filthy. I heard it's still pretty colored now, even though the water's back down below 400 cfs. Not a good sign. I'm sure it's the Turnow branch putting all the color in, and that eliminates most of the water good for boat fishing, and stacks the section between the mouth of the Turnow and the park with boats and bankies. Judging by the numbers of silvers below the mouth of the Satsop on the Chehalis (rolling EVERYWHERE), I'm sure some have shot up the Satsop. Might not be a bad bet to give the Schaeffer park or the S-turns a look.

Ted (grumpyr)can probably tell you some info about the Satsop, as he's fished it with me several times. It was excellent for kings in 97, but hasn't seen great numbers over the past couple years, so I guess it's a wait and see thing.

Good luck

Fish on......

If your floating to the I-5 bridge, you can't get there from here. Don't feel bad, I was at the forks on the Satsop late one day. Two guys in a drift boat came down and asked how far it was to Copalis. Good luck fishing!!

Kev,
Just got back from Schaeffer State Park about two hours ago from fishing the S curves all day long. The water is almost gin clear. You can see the Kings And Silvers stacking in the deepest hole in the S curves. The Silvers are pretty bright along with the majority of the Kings. I saw only a couple of really dark Kings today. I would say that all together I saw 100 to 150 fish holding in the S curves.
The fish are really spooky with only a handfull taken in the mouth. The rest were taken by snaggers, snaggers, snaggers!
I would not normally give up a good hole but I think the word is out now anyway. On Monday and Tuesday there were only about 10 people total who fished the S curves. Today there were about 30 people. I think it will be combat fishing there really soon. The high cliff above the deep hole was inhabited by what I was told was the Kramer family and friends. They supposedly own the property. Anyway, there were about 10 of them and they ruined the fishing for everyone. They were all snagging and casting over everyones line with utter disregard. The State would of had a field day. Nothing against the family, it is what I was told. They have been showing up every weekday at around 2pm. If you are there you will know who I am talking about.
Any day fishing is a day better than work, so I can't complain too much. I hope that some of your questions were answered.
Jack

Jack for as long as I can remember the S curves have been like that,it can be a jungle up there ,bring a camera or camcorder and tell the snaggers to smile for the birdie
,wheres a Gamey when you need one.

Jack, my dad(Don) told me you quit your job at the City. Are you fishing full time now?

I have been wanting to meet you. Would you like to go fishing later this month? I have every Monday off

Thanks for the heads up and the info, it's greatly appreciated! If the conditions are good, I may head down there next weekend. I'll let you know how things go.
That's what this board is all about....
