The lawyers can help me here. If he claimed he couldn't work, what did his tax returns say? Now, if they showed nothing and he is shown to have worked then he also has a tax evasion case in offing, right?

Somebody figured out that he made $750,000 between 2006 and 2016, so he better have paid taxes on that. Otherwise his disability fraud will be the lessor of his worries.

Stam's right about the prevalence of disability fraud. My wife works at L&I, and the enforcement agents are always getting calls that go like, "my neighbor who is on disability is putting a new roof on his house, doing the work himself."

I'm amazed by the personal info "guides" post on FB saying when they're booked (..."hurry up and book, only these days left..."). Pretty easy for Dept of Rev to extrapolate that info during an audit for a "smell test" to see if the quarterlies add up.

Swanny is an embarrassment to the guiding community. There is something definitely mentally wrong with this guy. A complete piece of shi#. I cant fathom what goes on in that little pea size brain of his.

These charges are more serious than the slap on the wrist he got for killing a few endangered fishees.

He's going to see jail time me thinks.

He will to be certain. The judge will take one look at what he did while doing what he was doing, couple it with his past troubles (pattern of behavior / not giving a fvck) and the hammer will drop down hard. He'll get jail, fines and have to pay back that cool 3/4 million. His house, truck, boat and everything he owns is gone - either to the man or to his lawyer. Any money he makes until the day he dies will be garnished. He's done in this state & Alaska for good. Crime doesn't pay kids.

Keep an eye out for a big gear fire sale coming soon. EVERYTHING MUST GO!

I believe in a slap on the wrist for most people. I know alotta people Are law abiding or get popped once and shape up. Its too bad the tiny group of guys like this, repeat offenders, make make the law harder on the rest of us, and government more expensive. He deserves whatever he gets.

I always joke although it's sad. If the State, Feds etc set up a systems where people on unemployment, disability etc had to have their photo in a Facial Recognition System and the government would video major fishing areas they'd get a lot of $ back. I know people who say they can't work yet spend 6+ hours standing in a river, cleaning their catch and packing it out. Just our money being wasted.

The guys told me they were on disability. Its wasnt just an assumption. Usually I hear a report like, "mon was....tues was.....wends was....." and I ask how they are lucky enough to fish every day and they tell me they are disabled. Meanwhile, they are perched atop rip rap casting across the river and hiking around on it all day."

Beezuz I am handicaped and most of the time you will never notice it. That doesn't mean I not in a lot of pain. It just means I'm used to it and the doc gives me good drugs. I have also been made aware that more than likely there is a wheelchair in my future so I don't give a damn if it bugs you or not. Pretty sure I'm not the only one in the state like this also. But I will continue to grit my teeth and do everything I can manage between now and then.

You gotta be mentally handicapped to fish the North Sound region.
And surviving the brutal raping from the state and tribes has to leave one at less than full capacity.

Not so.

The toothless backwoods hillbilly that gets caught poaching deer tends to lose it all, his truck, his guns, his license, possibly jail time, etc....

Swanny and the affluent bunch tend to be able to afford a good attorney and "pay" their dues elsewise. With a strong reputation and lots of illgotten monies its easy for a guy to pay their way out of trouble.

You guys act like you know him personally and do you believe everything you here on the internet? Its easy for a coward to bash someone sitting behind a keyboard. He is a good family man that definitely didn't do everything right, but trashing a person you don't know and believing everything you here online just makes you look dumb.

When a guy who can't spell "hear" correctly tells me I'm looking dumb, well....

You're not doing much to help your friend's image by coming here, using a fake moniker, and calling us cowards. The company one keeps often says a lot about himself in my experience.

As regards Swanny, no I don't know him, but I'm comfortable assuming that, just like every other "Good ol' Boy" who does bad stuff sometimes, it's the bad stuff that tells you who he really is. Plenty of good guys who had bad days in your local prison....

No, I believe what I read in newspapers and what the news folks on T.V. say when they report on flagrant lawbreakers. The deal with clipping e.s.a. fish was bad enough, but when he commits fraud on all taxpayers he pretty much screwed the pooch. That confirmed that he has no moral fiber and was more then willing to steal from all of us, not just fishermen who follow the rules. Bob R

Not sure about others but I haven't heard anything about this on the internet. I have, however, read enough to be aware he has been found guilty on several charges with the more recent conviction having the potential of him spending some time away from the family.

If his illegal actions, charges and convictions with their impacts on his family constitute his being "a good family man" let me opine that you and I have far different standards.

Playing the devils advocate, from the above article, I'm not seeing where welfare fraud comes into play- it only says he was denied in '06 or whatever. Did I miss something there?

Any guide who would jeopardize his livelihood by keeping illegal fish is a moron... Why would he post incriminating pictures online?

He was found guilty of perjury, wire fraud, and Social Security fraud that spanned an eight year period. The reason he was denied is because he made blatantly false statements, then he took it to court and lied about it more under oath to a Judge's face.

This guy is a lowlife POS of the illest sort. I seen him on the Columbia years ago before this Cowlitz clipping sh!t ever happened, getting busted by the Oregon State Police for filleting out a Chinook Jack to conceal it's wild status. I just saw that b!tch Swanny, last week on the Big C downstream of the I-5 bridge, with a boat full of people. Who still fishes with this guy?
