We did. Its the last part of the video you see me rowing like a bastardo.

I run it in a driftboat. Its not that bad just very fast and technical depending on the flows in the last bit. 3 feet right or left cocked the wrong way you flip. You have a narrow window of opportunity to row the last bit in a Driftboat. I usually row the upper part and rope the last bit. Almost sunk the boat and flipped it roping too. Its not for the faint of heart but man foshing out of a driftboat is just clutch.

Dam. Im getting old now. Compliments instead of rips. Sigh. I guess im one of the older guys on PP now. Hahaha. Thanks guys. I do appreciate the comments

I rowed it this Spring in a pontoon boat. I ran both boats through the top, but I stood at the lip of the last drop for a while before deciding to drag around. I still wonder if I should've run it. Next time...

Haha well there is a stair step, falls and agenerally gnarley bedrock river. Ive left some paint and aluminum in that rover over the years running a driftboat through it.

Unfortunately, Ornamental hair can be pretty dam unruly. Hair gel is my only defense against bed-head.

I realize you are THE expert on twitching. I mean, I've only been doing it for about 15 years but now I know how to do it right. !!!!!!

One thing you might want to think about though. In your video you mention how the splash tracks how the jig is moving in the river.

NOT TRUE

The flow is not laminar. Current slows as depth increases. Your jig lags where the splash might indicate it is. Plus, it is made of lead so it is highly unlikely to accelerate to current speed.

When you speak like you are THE expert, you tend to invite criticism. I've read, with a great deal of interest, the BS you have spouted over the years. You really do need to get over yourself.

Hobby, yeah. That's why I went to the University of Washington School of fisheries. Of course I decided to make money and changed majors after 3 years. Dr. Lynwood Smith was my advisor. He literally wrote the book on Fish Physiology.

I'll have to count up my fish list. Long ways to go, though. I need some advice on how to catch anything on the reef in Hawaii. We will probably be on Kauai or the Big Island in December. I just want to catch something besides the bottom.

Dr. Smith taught (and wrote the book) the fish physiology class. (Duh, I just re-read and saw that K-geo already said that.) You're a bit younger and probably didn't have Donaldson, Salo, Brannon, or some other old farts whose names escape me at the moment.

Guess I'm one of the dumb ones. Actually got my degree and then worked in the field for 40 years. As for IT, I still haven't figured out my phone or tablet.

40 years is like ... 4 decades ... That is an accomplishment worthy of anyone's respect. Congrats ... Now go enjoy your well earned retirement. It's worked out well for me and many others.

I was there circa 1986-88/90. Dr. Smith actually got me re-interested in being a pilot. He was a private pilot and owned a plane himself. I started thinking I could be a flying biologist. Maybe head to Alaska, where they listen to the bios. Not this politically influenced mess we live with daily. After quitting UW to go learn to fly, I decided to stick with my passion. Haven't regretted it much.


I do respect your career. You've given much to the field and are to be commended. Trying to do what's best in your field is always a challenge.

I ended up with a Political science degree so I could check the degree box for the airlines. I will always regret not finishing the Fisheries degree. I still have Dr. Smiths' book and most of my other texts. Great reference material for identifying species or answering technical questions I may have.

I want to say it was Dr. Donaldson that gave the fish 101 class in 86. I could be seriously mistaken though. As I recall, Hershel and his buddies had just set up camp at the locks and my beloved Cedar river was destined for failure. My last ever KEPT native came from that river in 1986.
