I was just wondering if anyone out there has fished the bear river, I've heard some pretty good stories for chums, silver and chinook. I will probably be going up there this next week depending on the water conditions, but was just wondering if this river produces many chums?

well I can't help you with run sizes timing etc... but I tried to find this river once and I couldn't find very much public access. If there is access I wasn't able to find it.

I don't know a thing about the river, but I believe I found it about 6 miles northeast of Ilwaco on Hwy 101, and appears to drain the hills above the Astoria/Megler Bridge. The reg book shows it's barbless hooks and has a total of 2 river miles to fish.

Good luck

Steelheader 1, I find you asking for such a river on this forum is kind of bull@#$&. Some rivers are better off having not a lot of people on them......and this is such a river..it is small...and you have a limited stretch of river you can fish,(it's all tidewater). There are few holes and the more people there are makes my fishing miserable. So.....if you want a free ride to such a river please dont come here where everybody in the world can see! Please. Some of us have secrets that they don't share with everybody.....I'm not saying this is one of them but I just don't want to go down there and see a million cars and not know what happened! Thanks alot Sthdr1...and possibly see ya around. wiggle wart

Hey Wiggle Wort.

Quit your Whining, Your Response Is the biggest bull**** unless it was you that mentioned the River to Stlheader1. Its obvious that he wasnt attempting to ruin anyones secret honey hole, and that he's never fished there. He heard about it and he asked if it was anygood, he didnts say I fished this small stream caught a ton of fish and this is how to get there. It was just a question and not only does your response make you look like an a$$hole but it also tells me that this probably is a good fishing stream.

Just curious but where else would you have had Stlhead1 ask. The advantage of this board is that we can ask questions and get awnsers.

Didn't mean to make anyone mad, I just was wondering if the fishing was anygood. Wigglewart cool off just a little and next time email me if you have to say something so stupid don't lip off on the computer because now everyone can see that this creek is a good one. I just want another spot to go and catch chums, now that my favorite spot the grays river is closed to fishing of all species you can't even go in to catch and release anymore... We released one there last year that was 28.75lbs there is a picture of it in salmon trout steelheader from last year, now everyone knows about another secret chum hole..... Thats closed...

Hey guys...I'm not "lipping" off so to speak...that's just the way I talk. I'm sorry if I came across totally mad. This river I admit can be good if you hit it at the right time and the right water conditions....and at other times it really sucks. Just like any other river that holds fish in it...it all depends. I'm just saying that I like this river due to the quiet surroundings and scerenity of it....that's all. It's a good place to get away from the "crowd" that comes with many other rivers... and I hate to see that lost. There are not many places like this out there anymore. Don't get the wrong idea guys....just putting in my 2 cents. thanks Wiggle Wart

The internet is a powerful thing
Technics are one thing...small coastal rivers that get very little pressure are completely different
Don't get me wrong we all want to catch fish but a few heavely fished seasons and these small streams will be done.....Like the Nasty is for Steelhead word of mouth is a powerful thing add the internet and it can become dangerous.....my .02

Not to stress here, it's a long drive anyway just to pull on some dogs'. Hopefully no one out there gets to excited driving to a creek with a small run of fish!!!! Just keep fishing those big rivers!!
