That's what the bow is for...

One of my clients has jet type sprinklers set up with a motion detector. Claims that it works like a charm.

I think a lot of people need to pump the brakes on extreme measures to save Orcas.
We could shut down all fishing, kill all the seals and cormorants, increase hatchery production 10x.
What would that do? Nothing.
10 years? Likely nothing.

There’s nothing we can do that will show tangible results.
Let’s try our best to protect our ability to fish recreationally.
Anti fishing people smell a opportunity here.

I have a bow. Works nice. But, they just don't die on .9 acre. I have thought about it, though. Perhaps a tightly sighted-in crossbow that could consistently do brain shots. But then, the gut pile.....

Why do you think that killing off the predators/shutting down the fisheries for a decade would do nothing? They're starving. removing the competition brings food. They eat, they don't starve, they reproduce.

You are right, though, that actual increase in the population may be 10-20 years out. Calves have to be born, they have to survive, they have to reach reproductive age, and then restart the cycle. It is quite possible that, if the food problem were to miraculously be fixed that we would still see population declines for a little while (few years at most) while the oldest died off of just old age before the new births increased.

It will take time and it won't be solved by short-term band-aids.
