Try a Jensen egg with a piece of orange yarn.

Try a regular nymph type of fly.

well the area i plan to fish it at is a big slow pool where the summer runs stack, so if the jig is up, then in my mind it won't matter, last year in this same spot i watched a steelie come down from 15 feet upstream to take my jig

btw i think i might put a shrimpy on the dropper

The hot way to rig the candy dropper is as follows. Derek Furgus (developer of Over the Edge Jigs) prefers to rig two candy droppers one above the other with either a Jensen egg or a glow bug on the bottom jig. Basically you have three rigs fishing effectively. On an upcoming Hawg Quest you will see him just slaying the fish in Oregon with it. I fished it with just two jigs last fall for slimers (humpies). More times than I can count I had one fish take one jig and during the fight another one would grab the other jig. Kinda a chinese fire drill.
