This afternoon I walked down past about 200 people (with rap music blaring) on the bank in the cornfield to the Cedar hole to see what was going on. After getting snagged about 5 times and being too lazy and hot to rig up a float (neoprene + 80 degrees sucks) I went back up to watch the circus. I have never seen so many fish guts in the water and on the bank. It stunk like the fish meal plant in Hoquiam. Trailer moms were letting their kids play in the water.? Lots of rods whipping around and people screaming they have one hooked "right in the chops". The people snagging on the rez side looked like they were having a family reunion. Grandma in the lawn chair wearing a visor, with mom and dad drinking and showing the kids how to fish for salmon. The fun seemed neverending until the 8 year old boy went to cast and caught himself in the back of the neck with a 10/0 triple halibut hook. "Party pooper". Everyone had to pack up for a trip to the hospital. Hopefully this young man is ok. I talked to a few guys using eggs who had hooked a few but the fish were so agitated from the endless pursuit of happiness that they just wouldn't bite. Oh well, I'll just hang on to my eggs for the Hump.

Well, it is a little disappointing to watch a dad bring his son to the Skok and teach him how to snag fish. And then listen to the "F" when one gets off. Or "Oh boy, got that one in the head. Do you want it?"
