Howdy folks. I am headed over to the Gorge for a couple concerts this weekend and was wondering there are any decent options for summer run steelies or salmon anywhere near the George/Vantage area. I will be on foot so I would imagine that limits the opportunities somewhat.

Even if it is a decent trout stream, I would be grateful for any suggestions and pointers for the area.

Thanks!

Coley

Not much open up thataway for salmon or steelhead from the bank. If you can score a boat ride the summer chinook are still getting caught all the way from Wanapum to Brewster. From the shore you might want to run up to Rocky Ford for some good fly fishing, I've heard that fishes well all year.

Thanks for the input. I had considered Rocky Ford and just might have to give that a go. It has been a handful of years since I was out there. Last time the fish were all about the cream colored scuds, small. Anyone know what they are turned on by this time of year?

Scuds and wooley buggers should work. I have had a lot of luck over there in the summer using hoppers. Even did OK on dry damsels once at this time of the year. If I were going over to Rocky Ford this weekend I would try a blood worm under an indicator. Never have tried them there and they might not work, but they have done VERY well for me at some other Eastern WA areas and I can't see why Rocky Ford would be different. Good luck.

Sounds good. I have never fished the blood worm although I have a few in the the box. Might be very worth a try. It seems like last time i was there, the fish didn't respond to much other than the scud, and I tossed quite a quiver at them. I remember catching one on an elk hair caddis in some fast water in the lower section. Probably fluke though.

Thanks again.

I have a place at Crescent Bar, but have never tried for salmon in the Wanapum compound. I think maybe I ignored it before because I always thought it was closed there. Just checked the regs and it definately is open for kings. Any tips for king fishing in that part of the river? My boat over there doesn't have downriggers, or depth sounder,(read: skiboat) so I'm kinda limited. I'd love to add salmon fishing to my agenda over there. Sippin cold beer in the hot sun and pullin the kids wakeboarding is fine, but sometimes dear old dad could use some fishin time.
