Just back from a great trip out to the cabin with some friends. We decided to head out to Neah Bay, passing on the zoo at Sekiu. We started fishing around 9am on Tuesday. The water and weather were perfect and the fish plentifull. We filled our limits of Coho wading through many wild fish, and a king. I think we saw the top of a huge squid 8-10' poke out of the water a few times. Yesterday was a repeat performance, with many more wild fish to hatchery. Non stop action on the surface and any where you wanted to fish. The interesting part was surface fishing for Humboldt squid. The Squid would attack our surface lure going 2.5kts. Any good recipes for the squid?

Matt

Nice report, looks like those Coho are fattening up nicely.

So do the Humbolts put up a good tussle & shoot ink when you bring them aboard and try to bonk 'em?

They can be a mess, we let them ink out in a bucket. The first run is good, then it is like reeling in a piece of kelp. It was fun to watch them try to catch the surface lure. Some times it was a big splash, other times it was just a few tentacles that would pop up to grab the lure.

I dont know if they were eating salmon, it didnt look like it. Their were a bunch of bird feathers on the water in the area of the Humboldts.

We ran into some squid while up on the west coast of vancouver island last month.... Any good tips on how to clean? We kept one, but didn't do a good job of saving much meat.
