Come fish with Rotten Chum Guide Service on Lake Stevens for some fast action on delicious Kokanee (Landlocked Sockeye Salmon). These fish are fanstastic on the table and put up a great fight with the light gear that we use...all gear and bait is provided. Last season produced a ton of fish and a ton of fun. These specials include the FISH GUARANTEE where if the boat does not catch a fish your money goes back in your pocket. I have a couple of options to choose from regarding these trips...see below for trip details and rates...

Weekday Evening Trips (4pm to Dark...4 plus hours of fishing):

These trips begin at 4pm and continue till dark. These trips are a blast and are great for kids! Come out and fish the evening bite on Lake Stevens and enjoy a relaxing evening of fishing after work...for CHEAP! Last year we averaged 14 Kokanee for the boat on these evening trips with the best night at 27 fish!! Our worst evening trip last year fishing wise was 5 fish in the boat.

Pricing:

$195 for the entire boat...I can comfortably seat 5 anglers...fill the boat and pay just $39 per person!

Weekend 7 hour trips:

Choose between the morning bite (5:30am to 12:30pm) or evening bite (1pm to 8pm).

Pricing:

$295 for the entire boat...I can comfortably seat 5 anglers...fill the boat and pay just $59 per person!

These prices are cheap and I will work hard to put you on fish...remember kids are more then welcome! These prices include the filleting and bagging of your fish at the end of the trip!

A few pics from last year...

When do you start fishing it. I'll toss in a couple of 20s to sit in that boat and drink for 4 hours with a few of PP crew. Wouldn't mind learnin a few of your tactics. Can't wait until it's dry and still light at 8pm.

Yeah...dry weather is always a bonus. April usually...just depends on the temps in the spring.

I would pay 30 bucks to watch RC put on his Kokanee netting show. He handles that 8 foot net with the speed and agility of a Ninja.

Lake Stevens koks are always fun and if they arent biting the bows tend to be biting pretty good

Kitsap lake has some winter rainbow brooders!! they're probably lethargic and extremely difficult to target. They're "jumbos." Yeah, we need some good kokers around here. I think Leeland lake accross the hoodcanal has some landlocked salmon (I've only heard stories) and I think that's open year round. You could get some multi-colored lead core line and some old pearl wobblers and go track down some underwater springs in cushman cool.

RC,

Do you use downriggers to fish for kokanee?

NW Panhandler -
Don't know where you live on the Kitsap P. but there are several decent kokanee lakes that could be within an hour of you. American Lakle south of Tacoma, Summit between Shelton and Olympia and Cushman at the end of the Canal. Kokanee are found through out the state and with a couple of excpetions there should be a decent lake within an hour of most of the State's anglers.

SG -
While downriggers are very helpful in chasing kokanee (especially once the water temperatures warm) they are not essential. Without getitng too techical Kokanee prefer temperatures in the mid-50s. As long as the surface temperatures are below 60 degrees or so there are times that the fish can be caught right on the surface - fish the normal kokanne gear w/o any weight at all! Even once the fish drop down a little there will be a period where they are still reachable with an ounce or less of weight. And of course there is the long time standby leaded lines.

However be careful fishing for them can be very addictive - not only are they a fun little fish with interesting naunces to the fishing they taste great. Like the larger fish on the grill and unless you have access to early season Columbia spring Chinook IMHO they produce the best smoked fish.

For fun I converted a couple 4 weight glass fly rods to "kokanee" rods. Couple those rods with a direct drive reel, decent fly or center pin reel loaded with mono and you are ready for some fun to fill that fishing period between steelhead and summer salmon fishing as well as the larder. Pretty hard to beat a "fishing" lunch of smoked kokanee, cheese, crackers, sliced apples and of course your favorite beverage. Used to think folks liked to fish with for the company but to be honest it really is all about the lunch -LOL!

Oh yes - if you watch closely kokanee can also be take in a casted fly. While the water temperatures are still cool in the spring they can sometimes be found feeding on emerging chronomids. A like an afternoon/early evening with no more than a light breeze.

In sure that RC and other kokanee experts that frequent this site can provide more detailed information on gear tips, methods and approaches.

Tight lines
Curt
