Curious if anyone has tried these rods out for jigging for salmon. I've seen alot of buzz regarding the effectiveness of these rods for tuna fishing. I was hoping there are some veterans out there with experience.

If you have used it please let me know why or why not the rod would be good for salmon jigging?

Thanks!!

We have used'em for live bait tuna and then on the way back in we stopped for salmon and put divers on them and had fun landing salmon.Kinda short for that use but it worked well.Good luck,

I've got a couple, and they work fine. It does take some getting used to the stick, though, as they're shorter than we're used to using and have a lighter action. The rods I have are on the light side...however, when matched with the jig, reel and line, the system works very well. First drop with a Butterfly jig in Washington waters (I had an early sample for testing) resulted in a king to the boat.

I've also used these rods (a touch heavier than what I currently have) on a two-day trip out of Key West and landed a variety of fish--everything from big kingfish (mackerel) to 200-pound Caribbean reef sharks.

Yeah, they'll work here.

To add to this, I'm on day two of a five day trip to Kodiak. Since one of my fishing buddies up here is a Shimano sales guy, we have a selection of the new Trevala rods.

As I said before, the rods take some getting used to. However, I've put a 20+ king on the deck, several decent halibut and more huge black rockfish than I've seen in a decade. The lightest rod I've played with is the 90-grain (jig weight it's designed for), and it really made a believer out of me. It's lighter than the older Trevala rods I have, and I wouldn't hesitate to use it in the salt for kings under 30. If I really expected to pop kings over 40, then I'd move up to the 110-grain rod. Both are short, light and tougher than you would believe possible.

Surprisingly, the boats we were out on had rafts of the older Trevalas on board.

I'm planning on hitting pinks and silvers with the 90 grain rod this fall.
