Doing this float for the first time this Saturday on the Hoh.

Any advice?

Or anything to watch out for?

Any info you can give would appreciated.

Watch for channel changes after high water above the canyon, one rapid as you come out of the canyon above the 101 bridge.

Thanks for the information. Does anyone feel a better choice may be a more upriver float?

Just make sure you are all the way to the left at the bottom of the canyon...don't miss it.

Also, the launch is very doable at Oxbow now, but you can take out another mile downstream at Allen Bar much easier, plus there are a couple of nice holes to hit between Oxbow and Allen Bar.

It's $5 to take out there.

Fish on...

Do you pay the $5 as you leave? I have a shuttle set up with a gentleman named John. I've heard he is reputable.

Thanks for the info Todd.

You or your turnaround guy pays the five bucks when your rig is left there...your turnaround guy will know about it, and you just give him $5 more than whatever he is charging to cover that, too.

Isn't the oxbow rapid worthy of mention here. I have looked at the rapid from the viewpoint and do not have the stones to give it a try....Any opinions?

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Yeah.

I have a buddy who took a swim in the Oxbow rapid. Apparently, the gal who was rowing didn't shoot left fast enough and dropped into a hole.

The swim came shortly after that. smile

Let's start a separate section on this site.. perhaps, by river and section. It should be updated by everyone that fishes the OP, so everyone that wants to fish here knows where, when, and how to go.

Or maybe we should respect what we have more than that

maybe folks should figure it out on their own. the op is pretty much gang banged as of late. any help you give screws you and others out of water which will now be occupied by someone who really doesn't know what the deal is. no news, no beta, equals good news for the op. its allot like a stranger.. if you don't know, don't go. if you are some super confident swinging dick, well you don't really need to ask questions, or you could personally get ahold of a friend who would gladly help. or just hit up walakes, they would love to give you an e hug and tell all about the perils of the hoh and relate harrowing stories. or better yet riptidefish.com, they love reports for all over there. i fail to see the point but they will help.

When the day comes that you can look at Oxbow from the takeout and it doesn't freak you out then your ready. Otherwise keep practicing on other river sections. Every stroke counts in Oxbow and you move through it surprisingly fast.

yeah I found her broken oar the next day. Had a Dr. Death caught in the rope wrap. Some guy known as Sparkey kept trying to buy it off me.

It's just that one rock at the bottom...it's eaten a lot of boats over the years, don't go over it wink

Fish on...

Thanks for the information on the how the stretch of river looked.

The idiots that wrote the comments below simply don't get it. I was not asking how to fish or what to fish, just asking if I should watch out for any obstructions. Like a ski buddy telling you how to safely get the mountain.

Let's start a separate section on this site.

•••••••••

Let's not. Please don't hang someone out to dry on a PM. The "P" stands for "Private". Not cool and not appreciated by the thankless shithead Mods here. You got the information you needed and you are still alive. Go about your business.

I'll just go ahead and edit things up a bit for you. You are welcome.

Just to be clear...I don't usually give out free information like I did above on the InterWebz, with one exception...and that is exception is when there is a real safety issue involved.

Hitting that rock at the bottom of Oxbow is a bona fide safety concern...it has dumped over driftboats, pontoon boats, and kayaks...and while I'm happy to let people go out and figure out where to fish all on their own (because that is exactly how it should be, you shouldn't just read about a spot on the InterNetz and then know all about it), I'd rather not have that person dump their boat and lose their gear, their boat, or their life.

Fish on...

Todd
