With all these actual fishing reports, I thought I'd jump in!!!

My annual fishing trip to Sekiu for the opener had me up late nights, and setting hooks as I dozed off finally to sleep. Only to find upon my arrival we had "brown water" what the!?!?!? Still optimistic, after all, I am on vacation, plus my Dad taught me, Identify, Adapt, and Overcome I think some of you Vets can relate to what I'm saying!!! So made some phone calls, sent some text messages to folks that had experienced some of the "brown water" at Westport. Intel received, made some minor adjustments and went after it!!! But it wasn't until I returned home, that I learned, I should have contacted some folks that successfully caught migrating Chinook out of Neah Bay they had the key to unlock the puzzle!!!
To make a long story short. It wasn't like year's past season opener's at Sekiu, but I made the most of it and had some great blackmouth fishing in fact the best blackmouth fishing I've ever experienced. Had some awesome seabass fishing thrown in too, even though I didn't regain my "Sekiu Seabassmaster Classic" title. Sure we had the opportunity to let go some actual "Chinook", and they were great specimens also!!!
My annual trip to Sekiu is in the history books!!! Remembered not for the big Chinook I came in search of, but for the great blackmouth fishing Sekiu has to offer!!!
I'll be back again next year, you can count on it,
Winterun

It sounds like you guys made the most of it! It was good to meet all of you. Your group had one of the nicer fish boxes I saw and your buddy's fish was one of the first bona fide Chinook I saw.

FG,
Yeah, Ret Sgt Maj gets after them all right. He caught that one with his trade mark Pt Wilson Dart he fishes!!! He's deadly with that thing, alot of the Chinook in MA13 meet their demise, being hypnotized by that jig going up and down up and down!!!
As for nice fish boxes, thank you sir, as you mentioned we gave it our best shot everyday, but I seen some stellar one's during our stay also!!!

GBL,
I think the only thing that's changed up there, are the people's ages!!!

But, I think it was old man Olsen (IDK for sure) mention something to the effect as we were buying an ice cream one afternoon, commented on one of the customers ahead of us being a , well for a lack of better words a "Customer"........ He groused at the situation, "Now I've seen it all" and stormed off!!!

I thought to myself in all his year's he would have seen it all. But it's a new day and age!!!

You gotta make it back there!

That is funny Todd, Old man (now) went to school with my Dad and I used to clean kicker boats for them as well as a couple others like Curlys and Van Ripers.
Old man Olsen was grumpy back int he 60's to!

My dad started fishing at Sekiu in the 40's. I'm told he took me while still in diapers. lots great memories from there.

Dad had a six foot steel rod and fished with 7" ceder plugs. Mom had to use a handline with a couple of wraps around the oarlock for a drag.

Here are a few Sekiu photos from the good old days.

I think I'm the only person left on this site that has never fished Sekiu, Neah Bay or La Push.

It was *easy* to fish when I was married. I wish that was a subtle boat ho'ing drop. Not so much these days.

That's what I get for being a responsible single father of two with 50% custody.
