A public workshop to discuss the state’s Puget Sound salmon and steelhead hatchery plans will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Sedro-Woolley Community Center.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is accepting public comment on its draft Environmental Impact Statement for the region’s 133 hatchery programs, including the Skagit River steelhead program a lawsuit halted earlier this year.

Four hatcheries operate in the Skagit River system: Marblemount, Upper Skagit, Baker Lake and Barnaby Slough. Those operations contribute to Chinook, coho, chum, sockeye and steelhead runs.
Healthy fisheries are important to both area tribal cultures and the local economy.
