Overfished by who? Or does it matter?

It's a cumulative effort. No party would be innocent here.

All I know is it is NOT going to be good for our PS fisheries that are already hanging on by a ballhair.

Almost had a feeling my backyard fishing holes the Skagit and the Stilly might be closed forever ( at least in my lifetime) and this report only deepens my depression on a rainy day! Getting tired of watching Food Channel re-runs...... cry

We all saw the impact of the Skagit/Stilly coho this past year (I almost wrote "season") in the absence of a fall fishery.

The question becomes will that closure continue or will we see a hatchery fish only restriction until those wild coho rebound?

In all honesty holding by breath on this dire report! Skagit was legendary and fished it from 2 Coho to 2 Hatchery/2 Wild Coho in recent years... Stilly was incredible too but have seen it decline in recent years also! Fingers crossed it can all rebound in due time!

Looks like a notice and not a notice of proposed rule making.

Even if removing the culverts increased the number of salmon it wouldn't increase the numbers for local harvest. The only ones that would benefit would be the ocean commercial interests.

What the bloody heck is the Queets doing on that dubious list? Habitat is not the problem on that river....

I think I saw overfishing mentioned.

Right. I meant to highlight that what is perhaps our most pristine salmon habitat on the coast can't seem to overcome the stress of open ocean and gillnet harvest. I think that sad state of affairs demonstrates that, while habitat is obviously critical, if too many spawners get harvested, even our best remaining habitat can't keep pace. In other words, let's reduce those commercial quotas a hair (or continue on watching the dominoes fall).

That is why the Elwha is so damn critical. The vast majority of the watershed is in National Park. If we can't recover salmonid driven ecosystems there, then the task is well nigh impossible. And, the Elwha is now affected by on of the 4 H's.

We I willing to put money on long-term recovery of Chinook I put my money on the Klamath, if those dams come out. Fewer "players" in that game.

I'll bet you a beer this will absolutely play in to how NMFS will be issuing permits from here on out!

It does not look good. Being a fisherman on the West Side is becoming less and less glamorous.
