I decided to listen to everyones advice and start tying my own jigs so here is my first one. I really would like some opinions on it, is it too sloppy? would a fish take it? in the picture it looks like there is white marabou mixed in, but it really is just hot pink and pink shell marabou, those two together have always been productive for me

thanks,

Looks kinda like a crappie (not crappy) jig. It's a really nice tie, but will the hook hold up to a 12 lb. steelhead? Be careful about your hooks, it really sucks bending 'em out on steelies.....

Eagle Claw 630 hooks work well for me.

Looks good. You could probably get by with a little less marabou.

Later.

Agree with DiverX, less on the Marabou....while we still use some Gami hooks, we really like "Owner". The Owner just seems to be a stronger hook!!!!

Bottom line.......not what we think is good, its what the fish thinks!!!!!

I will work fine. I have always favored jigs with beads, but that's just my opinion. It's usually more important how you fish the jig than how you tie it.

It looks good to me, and if you have confidence in it, it will work.

Shorten up the tail. Reduce the length by tying in the feathers closer to the head, reduce the chenille by half. Most likely it will still catch fish but jigs with long tails sometimes get bit in the feathers. Most importantly keep tying and be creative. You will be most happy when you catch a fish on something that you have made.

Bobber down for sure. My only suggestion would be to shorten up the chennile so you have more "bite room" for hooksets and holding a frantic steelhead.

They need to start making some 4" long hooks so that you can make a chenille simulated pink worm... =) now if only they could make a 4" long hook that would hold up to the fight of a herring even! =)

thanks for all the replys everybody, im just about to start round two, my only problem was i went out and bought gammie jigs and they have the little part built into the head that comes down the shank of the hook that is made to hold on a worm, so now the beads i just bought wont fit on the hook, looks like need to find some of the owner jig heads
