I was at Seacrest boat launch close to 5 pm and was watching the Muckashoots out in Elliott Bay gillneting chums, and around 5pm a commercial purse seiner boat comes in and anchors up within 100 yards of the boat launch and I could see them watching the Mucks pulling their nets through binoculars. You could see the large pile of nets on the boat and aluminum boat tied up to the back. This picture was taken on my cell phone camera and getting alittle dark so it's not real clear.

Sad day when you can't even go and hook a few chums.
And sadly enough it looks like its comeing soon..

No worries...factual scientific data will save us from any chum run being decimated...plus there's nowhere for those fish to spawn anyway so net the piss out of em. And then close the sporties down...brilliant!

Been working in west seattle for the last 2 months on a kitchen remodel and watching the "natives" gillnetting the river every which way but loose. I know they are "entitled" to these fish(kings, coho and now chums) but give me a break!!! Both sides of the container docks, Net on floats in the middle, nets tied off old cannery pilings and even saw a couple casting buzz bombs waiting for their nets to fill!! Now they want to seine the bay too! Wow, if Puget Sound isn't a barren waste land now, it won't survive much longer. The state of wash. and the wdfw shame on you and shame on Christine Gregoire for ignoring our and I repeat all of our resources. What little glimmer of hope this years chinook run gave us will soon fade away. It's now only a matter of time. We need to stand up now and protest this decimation of our resources and quit being a bunch of namby pamby bitchers. If you are reading this and are not a member of cca, Join now. we must organize now or all will be lost in our lifetime.

The fish from the seiners are being unloaded into totes , and being delivered to processing plants.

Each box truck holds 12 double totes averaging 8-15K

Was heading back from lunch with Jtard and counted 5 out in the bay seinering it up...

We as a society will have to determine if current and past management schemes, and indiscriminate nonselective commercial fishing is acceptable or attempt to change it in one form or another.

I’m a very patient person and still waiting for improved fishing in Puget Sound for over 50 plus years and getting more than a little frustrated with what appears as a never ending downward spiral in quality of fishing opportunity. Whether it be halibut, ling cod, shrimp, crab, rock fish, steelhead, or salmon to name a few.

Under current ways of management, is it going to get better in the next 50 years of the same o same o?

It appears laws need to be changed, to help management do their job properly.

There was also a big processor next to Shilshole on Tuesday and smaller boats tied of unloading their riches. How many Steelies you think they have netted now?

Chum... they get so much [censored], but the existence and life cycle is just as impressive as any other salmon. As sportfish, they fight harder than most other salmonids. Too bad some people have so much disdain for these guys...must be something they picked up along the way in forming their self identity. I remember when I used to judge people based on the popular sentiment, but i outgrew that after High School.

I never went out with fat chicks or drove a pinto so maybe its the same thing. Im wouldnt be sorry to see obesity and cheap cars wiped off the face of the planet..but chum? They arent that bad are they?
