... finally released.

431K.

Along with the 600+K chinook forecast should make for a VERY productive B-10 season.

Hoping for good weather and good tides the latter half of August. Should be some fun and productive fishing!

What was the run size last year? Also I believe that the year before it was in the 700K range right? Thanks

Found it......2010 vs. 2009. Answered my own question.

The prediction for early coho in the Columbia is 245,300 compared to 681,400 a year ago. Early coho enter the river in August and early September, and are key to a good fishery at Buoy 10.

Wacenturion -
I believe the 2009 forecast was 681K
The 2010 was 245K (actually was 274K)

The 2011 forcast for the "N"/early coho is 257 K (or about on par with last year). And yes you are correct those early coho are the key to the August Boy 10 coho success. In other words look for overall coho fishing early to be similar to last year. Of course individual success will vary according to the luck of the draw - there will be good and bads days and hot and cold spots.

No seriously... they came from a bio in Region 5.

The coho number I cited includes both A and B run fish.

The flood of hatchery fish in August is fueled by the early component, but later timed fish continue to be available at B-10 into the 3rd and 4th weeks of September when the entire estuary looks like a ghost town.

Some of the BEST fishing of the season...... for just a handful of boats.

SHHHHHH!

ok, if and when the wdfw allows the use of purse seines with a low mortality release rate to fish over these hatchery coho they will catch more and your hot sportfishing will suck but that seems to be what everyone but a few of us want.

Got it!

That's the old ad campaign I conveniently stole my oft-used quip from.

Forgot all about that line, "We need more Calgon."

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
