Saving Columbia Basin salmon requires a boost in the Northwest's focus and ingenuity

Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber, not typically given to hyperbole, issued a call in September decrying failures in "the war to save salmon." The problem with the word war is that it connotes immediacy and, even in the long term, daily calamity. But a war over salmon?
How about attention fatigue?

The Gov was sending signals to the Administration on their choice to replace the outgoing BPA administrator. Steve Wright is retiring in Jan 2013. They need to put someone in that position who will end the bickering. The PNW needs someone who can bring the region together to resolve the issues. The replacement for Steve Wright will be very critical to that outcome.
