Have some issues with my 9.9 merc kicker outboard...any good ideas on who is good on repair and isn't going to brake the bank charging me?

Ballard Marine for Merc work, they have most of the parts that might be needed and good mechanics. They are busy at this time of the year. As far as relative cost, I don't know, everywhere seems to be expensive.

The choke on a 9.9 can get gummed from whatever and sticks. Did the same drill but it is a small thing really as long as one knows about it. From what I gathered it does not happen much unless you store the boat outside. If used as a kicker store the boat indoors or outside use a storage cover with a engine room ( uses about the same as a 100W light bulb ) heater for the hull and a separate motor cover and it seldom happens. The thing is if your boat is outside then take care of it as you would a bundled up motor home. Always helps to every couple of months to throw it on the hose run things and put everything through the motions. Simple to do and saves agony. My TJ 21 ft is moored for 5 months and a pain to work on in the water so keeping things maintained correctly becomes a priority off season.
