Looking for a good spot to fish for pink salmon? Head to Marine Area 5 (Sekiu), where pink salmon are starting to show up in good numbers.
Check out our YouTube video to learn tips and techniques for trolling for pink salmon. In addition to pink salmon, there are also some good opportunities to catch hatchery Chinook and hatchery Coho in Marine Area 5.

had this pop up in my facebook feed...

so they close area 9 to protect the pinks and coho that are in low numbers then encourage everyone to drive to Sekiu to catch pinks and coho many of which are returning to Area 9... WTF

The "models" say that most of the pinks out in 5 would be Fraser. But, the models don't account for timing and the PS pinks are a tad earlier than Fraser. Plus, the Fraser forecast is for only 8 million and it is way too early for them (I checked the Fraser Panel website) to publicly say anything. Should be noted that sockeye there are way below forecast.

Sell those licenses....

I would opine that it more about putting some fishermen's money into the Sekiu (and Straits in general) economy; of course, ya gotta have a license......

Fully equipped NorthRiver Seahawk OS = $94,599
Ford F250 = $62,649
Gear & Tackle = $3,129
Fishing Licenses = $315
Motel, Gas & Food = $469

Catching 2 Pinks in Sekiu = Priceless

And I used to make fun of lottery players for willingly paying out "the stupid tax".
