New to fishing in WA on the OP but had a fun first season this year with a handful of coho landed. I'm looking to expand a bit into new locations/rivers this coming summer and fall. I've been reading up, and In the regs (for several rivers), it will list limits by adult fish and non adults (Jacks I guess). I can't seem to find what is defined as an adult fish. I haven't called the WDFW info line but wondered if anyone else has ever found this a kind of vague description? Is this info. somewhere in the regs and I'm just missing it?

Thanks, lots of good reading here.

Help is here.....

Washington Sport Fishing Rules

Go to Page 8

Salmon, here it explains what a "jack is", then anything larger is a Adult.

Now for steelhead, nothing about "size" to be an adult, that does surprise me. Must be any steelhead caught, with adipose missing, can be retained.

any rainbow in a river over 20 inches is considered a Steelhead, anything under is considered a trout...

its stupid, but thats what the regs are...

any King over 24 inches is an adult, any Coho over 20 inches is an adult, and any Pink, Chum, or Sockeye over 12 inches is an adult....

just a heads up, if there is say a 6 fish limit, 2 adults, and 4 jacks, and you catch your 2 adults and punch them, you are done fishing for the day, you have to catch and kill your 4 jacks first in order to continue to the 6 fish limit... once the adult portion of your limit has been retained, you are done....

Ahh..thanks. There it is (pg. 8). Need to take some Cliff's notes of the regs. with me, I guess. I tend to absorb new info slowly and I don't want to run into trouble during that process. I'm not that kill-happy anyway, but those coho have sure been some good eating fish!
