I want to coat some nail knots (running line to head) to smooth out the finish and have been looking at Zap a Gap products. They make several thicknesses and an epoxy as well. Any suggestions to get started?

Also, want to use something on finishing off flys. Same stuff as for knots or different?

Thanks from the novice.

Rick,
A couple of other options to consider.
Loon UV Knot Sense for the knots. Pliobond will work also, just not as smooth as Knot Sense.
Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails to finish off the fly heads.

I've never felt it necessary to coat knots. A compact nail knot slides easily through the guides with minimal friction between the hard monofilament and the metal of the guides. I strongly suspect that covering the knots with any kind of flexible coating (Flexament, Aquaseal, Goop) actually increases friction, while non-flexible coatings simply add bulk to the connection.

The connection between the running mono and the fly line is a little rough and could use some smoothing, likewise for the terminal fly loop. The comments about adding bulk and weight are good. I don't need the smoothing on the leader/tippet, just upstream on flyline.
Thanks.
