For Skagit Sockeye fishery in July.
What flies and line type (Dry or Wet) do you recommend?
I've never fished for Sockeyes.
Appreciate any info on this.

All-be-it's been years since I've done this: 1/0 or 2/0 silver hook with yellow chen. body and red deer on top/bright yellow on the bottom for 'hackle.'

There are a lot of possibilities. I tie a kind of chartruse green streamer for a friend to use on the Kenai, and he does well with them. Here's an experiment that may be worth your time. Use a Muddler or other sculpin imitation and tie a #2 red hook on an 18" dropper from it. A friend of mine has picked up a couple in the Skagit this way over the years.

Good luck, and let us know what you use and what you have success with.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

Go small and sparse. Try red hooks (Gami makes a traditional salmon/steelhead colored hooks), red thread, few strands red krystal flacs, and a few strands red bucktail/polar bear. Also try pink, white, black, green, chartruse, and orange.

Thanks all for your input!
I think I'll try the red hooks with red thread and pink flies.
Hopefully, the visibility will clear up by the fourth of July weekend.
The report is indicating the visibility is not so good right now, due to the Sauk dumping a lot of snow melt with silt.
I'll report back on the Sockeye fishery next month.
