In Illinois your allowed to keep them if you stop by the State patrol office to report it and they get the bio samples they need. My bud hit one when I was viviting and our boring Friday night turned into sausage making!

Seriously, wouldn't the probable rupturing of internal organs (bladder, scent glands, etc) render this meat inedible?

I wouldnt worry so much about the damage caused to the internal organs and stuff ruining the meat.Usually though if you hit a deer with a vehicle hard enough to kill it.There isnt much meat worth salvaging.I've seen deer that were hit in the head. You would think they would be o.k. Then when you start cleaning them you find lots more damage that happened after the initial impact. To me its just not worth the effort. But you might get lucky once in awhile and find one worth salvaging. wink
