Need some info on centerpin reels. I am looking at buying one this year, but dont want to spend a million bucks on one. The Islander looks great but is too costly and has no lock on it. The Alvey has to be turned sideways to cast, and that looks akward to me. Kent at Teds told me Loomis has one, but have been unable to find it on the net (I think he said Loomis). Does anybody know of any others for a reasonable price? Or am I stuck with the mega bucks brands? any info is appreciated. Want to use it for float fishing with some of my old fly rods that I dont use any more. thanks.

A guy named Duke makes a cheap one. Works well. He is in Hazel Dell. Look up the number for Duke's Paving and give him a call. I have one and like it very much.

I have a rod that I believe is supposed to be used with a center-pin reel. 13.5 foot certified pro with a Canadien style fighting butt. I was going to put my 12 wt Tioga fly reel and give it a try. I don't know anything about center-pin reels or that type of fishing hoever you may look into the Tioga. They are about 175.00.

Your best bet is to find a sports shop up in Canada. Be prepared to pay at least $175 US for a cheap one. Anything less than that is probably junk.
