I'd like to do take a shot at the late run coho on the Kalama sometime over the next week or so. Does anyone know if the WDFW weir is still there below Modrow? If so, when do they plan to take that thing out of there??

They made their hatchery quota back in mid September. I know they need to sample adults from the entire run of fall Chinooks but when the hatchery is full, it's full. Not sure why they take so long to get the weir out.

I'm pretty sure it's out. Was there yesterday and fished farther up from Modrow. Seen a few guys fishing around the bridge and a raft below. I believe it's closed 1000 feet above to 1000 feet below when it's in. Caught one dark chinook about 15 pounds with red spaghetti tag behind dorsal. It looked like unburned charcoal and had pus around it's gills. ...And it was an excellent smoker. Just kidding, I released it. It was accidently snagged in the pectoral fin as I was reeling in. Seen lots of dark fish swim right by next to the bank, but only one bright fish that rolled in a riffle.

We fished ther Kalama today and it looked like the weir was still in. Lots of dark old spawners but there are a few of the late run silvers starting to show. Saw two caught in the Beginners Hole, but lots of sccidental snagging of the old ones. its hard not to snag them, because they are everywhere, just swimming around a few feet under the surface. I accidentally snagged a 20 lb King with a green tag in its back. It was pretty much spent, didn't even have much of a tail left. There are also some fresh steelhead showing up.
