My brother stopped by there on the way to pheasant hunting last Friday and had nothing good to report. Lots of people, very little water, fewer fish being caught, and the few fish he did see (on the bank and rolling in the river) were all dark. It didn't sound like a good use of time, I'm sure there are better options elsewhere.

I have been fly fishing along the river road and I caught the brightest chinook 25lb i have ever caught. I have caught more chinook than coho but you have to release chinook. Fishing is average but tons of fish lots of water and no crowds. Living in eastern Oregon I have learned to fish for these fish under really tough conditions.

thats my stompin grounds:like the other report says nothin but dark fish this time of the year you might luck out and get a bright one.I,m carded out for salmon, the replacement card the fn wildelife give you is only good for fin cliped fish and there isnt very many of those on the umatilla R. ,not coho any way, the eggs are getting pretty lose in most of the fish too. if you want to know where to go all im going to tell you is where every one else goes youd have to drive bamboo under my finger nails before id tell ya where i go. man its combat fishing at chinamans hole!!!!
