Everyone konws about the success of the various ways to fish the pink worm - mostly for steelhead, but also taking 'hos and 'nooks. What other colors have been working for you guys?

Three others that work well are the black with a small chartreuse tail, and also transparent purple or red in clear water. Berkley's 'mathialate' color (cured salmon egg color) is a sleeper that puts it to 'em. I'm sure there are lots of productive colors for various conditions.

So many worms and so little time. wink

I had good success in the last week of March last year on some orange and hot pink worms I ordered from Cabelas. I think they were called Billy Joe's or Bobby Joe's Floaters. I'm sure the Bassin' boys know of them. Had to cut off 2-plus inches off them since they were 6 inches long (must have been standard length American male worms).

Hey RT, I did find small Mister Twister tails in the Feathercraft Catalog. They work mint for tying into any small jig, fly, or smolt pattern for an added wiggle. My buddy who guides on the Naknek River turned me on to them for the big bows (worked on kings, silvers, and chums) up there...no reason why they wouldn't be killer for weighted flies for steelies and salmon here.

Methiolate(red)for you older guys methiolate was that red sh!t that your mom put on your scraped knee and it burned like a mutha [Bleeeeep!]! Black with chartreuse tail works good to but is hard to find. I would like to find the hot pink "4 with the "Mister Twister" tail. For my money though the Bubblegum Pink 4" Steelhead Crawler by Berkely Powerbait is my choice. Something about the scent they put in them. Big Poly makes some good hand pours also.

Wow! Was working on this when the winds started blastin big time. Lost power for a couple of hours. Anyway what about glow in the dark. Most of us pack it for those special moments after the sun goes down on our favorite spots. I'm going to try it...anyone else have experience with it?

Gooose laugh

Hey Dan (C&D), you mean to say the average American male length is 6"!?! Oh craaap. I was lied to! I thought I was ..... shocked nevermind shocked ...

We have been using the hot pink or orange little grub body curly tails along with eggs or shrimp tails with success Dan. Even by themselves on a smaller jighook in clear water. They give the pink worm a good challenge at times. It's like I posted and wrote about in my column, stock up at the bass 'salad bar' dishes, and catch steelhead with that stuff. Yes Troy, steelies! After the water clears and the steelhead are in good numbers I will show you where you can stick a pink worm! ... HEY! I know what some of you perverts were thinkin there. Clean up your thoughts or we'll investigate your ISP #'s. mad .... laugh

That's exactly what I got at the store a few weeks ago, Stew! I thought they might be too small, was gonna get the 6 inchers, but then I thought maybe they'd be too big. Just went with my instinct-the 4 inchers. So are these 4 inchers the right size or do I need to cut them a little? I didn't know there was scent in them. Even better! laugh

KB, definintely the 4 inchers for steelhead. I most often use them on a jighead and clip it down to 3 1/2". I caught a chinook this fall on that size rig while fifshing for silvers on the Oly Pen. Plenty big.

So, it's not the size of your worm, that's important, but how you use it!

That kind of reminds me of a little saying ... It's not the length, it's not the size, it is how many times you can make it rise.(yeah, I meant fish wink )Get your minds out of the gutter.... laugh

Thanks RT. Sounds like I made the right choice. Since I still don't have a float rod, I think I'll just driftfish it with a cheater or corky to float it up.

Three inch all black, or with chartreuse or pink curly tails, when the water is low and clear.

Fish on...
