You can pick up marabou at any fly tying shop, they carry quality marabou.

I'm not an expert on what feathers work best, but I do know that the Morning Hatch (in Tacoma) has a helluva selection of feathers and other fly-tying materials. They are very informative and could probably give advice as to what feathers might help you best. Bring a sample jig to help them explain what part of the feather would be most helpful in a jig. I'm sure more technical advice on jig tying will follow!

I recommend making your jigs out of fur. You get more for your money because fur doesn't have all the quills and stuff you have to take out, and I believe that fur has better action in the water. I've done better with fur jigs anyway. Mainly rabit fur.

I'm a professional fly tyer, and the hands down best marabou you can get is from a company called Hobbs Feather Co. I buy it in bulk by the pound, but you can get it from The Fly Fishing Shop in Welches, OR for about $2.25 per 1/4 oz pack in all the standard colors. Another option is using rabbit fur strips. They'll last a little bit longer and you get that nice motion in the water. Hareline Dubbin makes some good stuff, and if you can't get their products from your local shop, then The Fly Fishing Shop can handle that too.

Try the Morning Hatch in Tacoma. It's off of 38th street by the old Best shopping area, near the Dynasty restaurant. They have all sorts of different tying material that is great for jigs....maribou, fur, etc.
