I was out farting around for no good reason on one of my favorite local rivers Sunday and ran across a great little project built by the Steelhead Trout Club of Washington (or maybe it's the Washington Steelhead Trout Club) and just wanted to say great job if there's anybody from the club who checks this board.

They built a little rearing/imprinting slough off a feeder creek. When I first pulled up I thought it was some morons had diverted and plugged the creek for fun. Not so. I stood there for a long time watching that black raft of smolts play.

Anybody here (Salmontackler?) involved with this Ballard-based group? Their sign said they've been around since 1928 but it was the first I've heard of them.

They were founded by Ken McCleod of the Skykomish Sunrise fame many many many years ago.

They have done some good but the McCleods are FAR from the "If its Wild, Let it go" belief.

Hey, If someone out there does have any information on The Steelhead Trout Club I'd really appreciate it. My great grandfather was a founding member and former president of it. Gred Johnston wrote an article for Western Outdoors a couple of months ago that mentioned it, and the fact that it is still active. I tried to contact him through the magazine, but have not heard anything from them. Thanks, Chris

The sign on their project said they meet the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 at the Ballard Eagles. I don't remember the exact location.
