If you do a search and pull up my old post "Chinookie & Ho's off of the beach" you'll find out some great info.

I'll probably try the N.Jetty around Ilwaco some time next month. With the big coho return expected on the Columbia, it could be like the good ole days. The jetty is usually worth a try from early August on. Word of advice if you go, where boots with felt soles on a low tide for traction on the slippery rocks, don't bring small children out there (not a place for kids or the elderly!) some of the rocks out there, if you fall, it's 20ft onto more barnacle covered rocks!, bring a burlap sack for your catch and a net with a long handle and plenty of sun screen.

Good luck!

You know, when I was a kid the Old Man used to take us out to Ilwaco to fish off of the North Jetty..... It's been too long ago for me to remember exactly where or how we fished, but if memory serves correctly we used to float fish with either a herring or anchovie about six feet under a styrofoam float. We used a little wieght to get the bait down, I don't remember how much. It was a lot like float fishing in any river, there was a drift, you didn't have to cast far, and when the bobber went under, you had a fish on. I think I'll try to make it out there this year, just for $hits and giggles if for nothing else.... We used to have a lot of fun out there.

I'm headed to Ilwaco this weekend...fondly remember as a kid watching jetty fishermen take silvers 25-30 years ago with that float and herring set-up. Though I'm not prepared to try it this time (too busy tent camping with kids), and I think it is a bit too early anyway....I will go out on the north jetty, check it out, and report. Time to get my kids started on this habit...
