Well !@#$@ Neah has a small craft advisory for monday morning! 35kt west winds possible, not a place I want to be fishing.

However, down the coast towards westport the weather is supposed to be fine.
Is the fishing still hot down at westport for silvers? And if so, where do I go, I've never launched there.

Go through the main part of Westport(Red Apple Grocery), and continue on down to where the Westport Shipyard is, about a mile or so, like you are going to where the charterboats are. There is a small gas station there, just where you make a right to hit the shipyard, if you pass the shipyard you have gone too far. They have fresh herring, but it is spendy at about $5.75 per dozen. This is where the boat launch line starts, if you get there after about 6:00am. I suggest that you get there by 5:00am. You can launch and wait for the charters to go out and follow them, or follow other boats from the kicker ramp.

Sekiu is a good second option if you are worried about the small craft warnings. We have never had to go farther than a mile offshore, and we have caught salmon as close as 400 yards from the boat launch with regularity, but you must release the kings.

Best of luck on the trip, let me know how you do. I hope some of the info I gave helps.

Andy

What's the smallest boat you guys would take out of Westport? I know it's always a pick-your-day sort of thing, but what's a general rule?
I've got a 19 foot Custom Weld, it's plenty sturdy, handles the swells OK, but pretty flat bottomed, so it gets uncomfortable in small chop... I've had it 6 miles offshore up off Vancouver Island, but I never had to cross a "bar"... what do you think?
