Anyone ever fish off the lower deck??
Took the wife and daughter up there today and seen 2 guys hook a king a piece. Too bad kings are closed the until Sept 1st.
Anyone on here ever try it up there?
It's great for us poor souls without a boat, puts you right out in 100' or so of water.

Do you know what they were using when they hooked the two kings?

one guy was using some sort of spoon/buzz bomb thing, never seen it before. It was blue and silver.
The other guy had a 000 dodger, 3oz of lead and a cut plug herring.
The current gets ripping through there pretty good, so you're kind of doing a stationary troll.

All you need now is one of those Fishin' Buddy fishfinders, and a clamp on downrigger and you are set. smile

I'd thought of the downrigger option. Not sure if i want to pack any more crap out there with me though.
Might have to invest in an old backpack frame to strap some stuff on.

duh, now thats thinking!!! laugh

Sometimes the stuff I don't think of, I tell you what!!!!

The trick would be getting down all the stairs, but this route would still be better than trying to carry everything.

A wagon won't work on those steps down!

There was a guy who went to the gunrange in Bellingham and he had the set-up I think you are looking for.

This OLD guy, must have been 40 or so ;), had bought a baby stroller at a garage sale for a few bucks. He took off the seat section and the built a gunrack section so he could haul five rifles from his truck to the shooting benches. He had a shelf built down below where he had his shooting box, insert tackle box, bungee corded to the whole set-up. He said it cost him about 4 bucks for the entire outfit, but a new umbrella stroller is only about $10 anyway. It no longer folded up, because of the modifications, but he just hauled it in the back of his truck.

A setup like this could get you down most stairs, and would make hauling that gear, plus a nice fish, a lot easier. You could customize it to fit your gear, and it would only take about 2 or three hours if you have the ability to figure it out.

I just pattented it, so if you make one, ya owe me 10 bucks. smile

Let us know how that goes.

Andy

Andy, you da man!!!! laugh laugh

That's an awesome idea, hhmmm wonder if the wife will miss the baby stroller that she has promised to someone....... laugh

There's a 2nd hand baby store not to far from here, They've always got a bunch of them sitting out front. Going to have to take the long way to work one day this week I guess.

Anyone have any idea what one of those clmap on down riggers costs? I don't have a clue, don't have a boat never looked at downriggers.

Check boatersworld.com or bassproshops.com. as both have reasonable prices. You are probably looking at a $60.00 investment.

You could also try a Deep Six diver, I have downriggers on my boat, and had never used Deep Six's until I was on someone else's boat two weeks ago, they worked great!! I'm going to get one or two to run when I have a lot of people in the boat.

They run at basically a 45 degree angle, so if you let out 60 feet of line, you're probably running about 30 feet deep. We were running small flashers and hootchies, and also spoons off of them.

A good way to estimate how much line you have out (assuming you're using a levelwind reel) is to watch the levelwind bar as it goes back & forth. Figure out how much line comes out in one pass (probably 8 to 10 feet) then just count passes of the bar.
