OK, the handle has to go. I heard somebody say something about their handle button falling out, then I saw Redneck's reel do it, then Friday MY Okuma hadle locking button went "Plunk" into the Quilcene, and I was left battling a pissed-off silver with a FOLDING handle. mad

I was less than pleased, because I had to leave my choice spot unattended while I dashed to the truck for my spare rod and reel. eek If you've seen the Quilcene recently, you'll know how risky a dash to your rig can be.

Didn't they field-test these things? We're talking about less than 5 hours use of the thing, and mine isn't the only one having the same problem.

Other than the handle, I think it's a great reel. Problem is, that's like saying "It's a nice car, but it doesn't have a steering wheel." How do you drive a nice car with no wheel? I guess I'll be calling the Okuma dealer.........

my father had the same problem with his okuma reel, set the hook on a steelhead this last winter, fought the fish for awhile and then "plunk" went the reel cap and he was left with a folding handle and ended up loosing the fish due to that! Needless to say on the way home we stopped and got his money back! this was pretty disappointing, he'd only used the reel for two trips! he went back and bought a shimano.

Who makes this Okuma reel? Or is Okuma just another brand name like Abu Garcia or Shimano?
