I'm planning a trip up to Mtn Vernon to visit a friend and fish the skagit. Can anyone tell me what works and where to use it up there. I appreciate it.
Thanks,
Marc

Also, I have been trying my luck at Fay Bainbridge State Park casting off the beach. Had several silvers on last Wednesday, but nothing since. Anyone out there fishing around Bainbridge from the beach, Agate Pass or Suquamish?
Thanks again!

The Skagit around Mt. Vernon is pretty much a plunking show as the water runs colored from glacial flour from the Sauk river mouth downstream. I am assuming that you are fishing off the bank so you'll want to use a standard plunking rig with a 3 way swivel or speader bar, 12" dropper to a 4oz. pyramid sinker, and a 2' leader to a hot pink #8 spin n' glo with a fresh sandshrimp on a 2/0 Vision hook. I used this setup earlier in the season and caught as many or more than anybody else. Just be sure and soak your sandshrimp in a bath of shrimp oil, herring oil, and anise. This concoction will increase your catch rates while plunking. Good luck.

Thanks! I've heard about this place. I'm new at this salmon game. Do you find it better early morning or just before dark up there?

I've seen them catch fish all thru the day up there. Morning has been the best especially if you can time and incoming to slack tide. Try using a plug cut herring or herring strip on a mooching leader with 2 oz. or so of lead. Rig the plug or strip to have a realy tight spin, the silvers like that. The current moves pretty good through this area, so you want to fish it almost like you would a river. Cast up current and drift down. slowly retrieve so that you are 5 to 10 ft below the surface.
