Once I have all the ingredients to make a basic egg cure, what do most people use for dyeing the ingredients? Would you use regular food coloring or actuall iodine? Is it possible that colored borax could be mixed in with chems to create that special colored egg cure? I'm kinda stuck in this part of the egg cure making process.

Hey Matt, I'm not quite sure what your asking. Are you talking about putting up eggs in a brine cure, or are you trying to make your own powder type cure?? If your attempting to do the latter of the two, I'd suggest making it easier on yourself by just going out and buying a commerical cure (Pro-Cure, Quick-Cure, etc.) and following the directions. This way you have a cure that already has dye in it. Maybe if you elaborate on your question a little more, I can do a better job of answering it.

Okay, here are my thoughts. Your exactly right in that people can't read my mind. I was thinking of creating my own powder cure (after a little practice that is). But until I actually have made a good egg cure, I will buy professional cures. My entire idea was to save money in the long run buy creating my personal egg cure. I do not have any intention of creating a cure and marketing it. Just curious of what people used.

Matt,
We can't answer that and I'm sure no one will. If everyone knew what the major commercial companies do they'd sink. I'd recommend Pro-glow bait dye to start with. Keith

All I needed was somewhere to start. So I think I will start with the pro-glow dye and see what happens. I don't plan on anything working pefectly. I imagine mayself working on the same project 5 years from now. Oh, well, maybe it would be easier just to go buy your egg cure. Maybe my idea of saving money isn't worth my time.

Hey Ripdat,
Whatever you do, don't use idodine in your egg cure. Not even iodized salt. That stuff will repel fish like genuine sea lion oil or essence of Orca whale. Jello isn't a secret anymore so I'll second that notion. You can't do too much harm using Jello either. Good luck

Thanx for the heads up on the iodine. (Unless your joking) . The last thing I need would be to chase fish away. Just a little more experimentation and.. well, lets just say I need more practice. Matt
