I have been using Fireline since the beginning of last summer. Mainly because I could fit so much of it on my old reel, which I used for river fishing as well as boat fishing the sound from a downrigger. What I want to know is how many of you use it and why. Also are you using it, and what color, for fishing for steelhead. I have been using the yellow color and tying on about 5 feet of Maxi ultra green before my leader all season for steelhead. Last weekend I spooled up my reel with all ultra green and after only two trips it started giving me trouble. I am using good quality swivels made in the USA. The thing I like the most about Fireline is that it has almost no memory, stretch, it's diameter and it super strong. Other opinions?

Hey Trail,

My experience with Fireline is that it's great line until it begins to fray, looks white, kinda like kite string. At that point, you have lost half of your original strength. Notice I say from "my experience", others here will obviously tell you otherwise. Keep in mind, however, that half it's strength is still damn strong in many cases but disappointing and unsettleing in my opinion. Good luck!!

I used the yellow fireline for most of a year and loved it for all the same reasons.I miss the yellow because it was easiar to track on the drift!I used to black out the last 20 feet or so with a marker to camo but found with my hardware it didn't realy matter, just tied on a swivell and went for it!
