A buddy and I were fishing in the Sandy River for steelies. Which we caught, but also we caught a bright coho, which was clipped. Isn't middle of January kind of late for this?

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Most years it would be unusual......especially for a fin-clipped fish. But, every once in a while you get a year like we're having now........better enjoy it while it's here, I hear there's another El Nino brewing. frown

Not terribly. We've seen catches in recent weeks out this way as well. Some streams it's pretty common to see them late in December and have even seen them caught in mid-February. I also seem to recall a picture of herzog's some years ago of a monster silver out of a Humptulips fork that I believe was caught in late February or thereabouts. I've caught kings carrying lice through Christmas eve and dark jacks after the first of the year. Another guide out here caught a chrome king out of the Bogachiel in the the last week of January about ten years ago.

Hooked into and lost a beauty about a week ago. Only got a glimps when it rolled but looked pretty darn good. This last flood probably took care of the rest. Will post results of the next three days upon my return.

It's not unusual to see these wild coho meander in as late as March and April especially on the coast. The end of February last year I release a chrome 15lb. one from a river up north.
