Call me cheap or call me thrifty but, I had a question regarding a world record (all tackle)and when I went to the IGFA website they wanted 35.00 to enter the records file and become a member before I could access the records! Here is my question, what is the all tackle record for rainbow runner? If one of you BB members is a member of IGFA and look this up for me I would very much appreciate it.Thanks in advance! By the way the biggest one I caught (only two) was close to 20# and the guide said it was as big as he has ever seen.

I also have one more favor to ask if anyone is going to this website for me- could you please post the picture of a rainbow runner to answer some questions for other members who have questioned what this fish looks like. I realize this is alot to ask for only a thank you in return but hopefully I'll be able to return the favor someday. Thanks again,Sid Fishious.

i belong to the igfa, and could not find a listing for rainbow runner. maybe they call them something else. how about scientific name? maybe they dont consider them a gamefish. if you are really interested, i can ask them if they would start a new class

I grew up in Hawaii. Although it wasn't a common catch, Daddy and I did boat a few rainbow runners up near 30#. So unless you catch happens to be a line class record, your 20#er won't be close to the all-tackle "kamanu," as we call them. Still a nice catch though!!!

Gentleman, thanks again for the legwork you have done, the good deed does not go unnoticed.Though it was a good fish I couldn't imagine that it was a world record, seeings I have heard these fish swim in all of the tropical oceans of the world.I did find it very interesting Hohwaiin that you called them Kamanu in Hawaii growing up as a kid,the mexicans call them salerma and the people of the Bahamas just call them rainbow runners. Thanks again!

(Elagatis bipinnulatas) Rainbow Runner, is a really pretty, sleek torpedo shaped fish that is olive blue on top with two bluish streaks down the side and a yellowish stripe between.
World Record: 37 lbs 9 oz, Isla Clarion, Revillagigedo Is., Mexico, 1991. This fish is caught at deepwater rigs over 300 feet. Cigar minnows and poggies are good baits. These fish are very fast, pretty and great eating.

Sorry Sid, looks like you're 17lbs short.

Ramstrong, yes they are very tasty. We just cooked ours with garlic and butter, but I saw an episode of Spanish Fly w/Jose Wiejebe and he stated it was bar none the best shushimii you can eat.Too bad we didn't have the wasabi with us,cuz I'd like to have made the comparison with yellowfin tuna which has always been my personal favorite. Thank you Ramstrong for your efforts.Sid Fishious
