Fished it on Saturday from dawn to 1 PM. Got one wild (well, it had a dorsal) late run winter steelhead..... let him go. Nice colors on him, though. Got him on sandshrimp and orange corkie just below the Barrier boat launch; about 75 yards.

Water is perfect. Maybe a little too clear; about 4' visibility.

Saw a couple springers caught by bankies above launch. About 20 fishermen lined up along edge of bar. Water level makes it pretty easy for bankies to fish most of that stretch. If it comes up a foot or so, it'll suck for them.

Good luck to your dad.

I was just at the salmon hatchery today and was talking to a couple of the guys that work there. It was very informative. There have not been many springers over the ladder yet. Also the predection for silvers this fall is not very good. I hope they are wrong about that.

I don't know what the bankies were using. We watched a guy through binoculars land one, but I think it was foul hooked by the way he was fighting. Plus he let it go. Saw another fish being cleaned when we took out. Maybe 14 pounder, tops.

We were in a sled and fished down river. We're not real familiar with that stretch from Barrier to Blue Creek, so we were on a scouting mission. Found some real nice plugging water and drifting water.

I'd suspect that eggs or shrimp would do equally well for the springers when drifting. We pulled some wrapped Kwikfish but didn't get any action.

But looking at the F4 results, and the count over Bonneville, doesn't seem to be many fish available yet.
