Anyone have an idea when Lk. WA is open for coho? I can't seem to find any info on that subject. Also if you do, how to fish for them? We have a downrigger, flashers, plugs, bare hooks, etc, etc. Any help is greatly appareciated!

Responses may be sent to my email addy: be111@scn.org

Until then...

Check out the washingtonlakes.com forum or go to the web page . I know Mike C., the editor, has fished for coho on the big lake.

From the WDFW website, it opens in the North end on Sept. 16th.

We are going to try for kings in Lake Sammamish on Friday. Wonder how that will be?

Carl, what you planning on using? I had a response to use a Sockeye setup. I also have heard about using some lures but not sure which.

Easy Limits,

I've been there done that on this fishery. Some guys do well with K-16's with a sardine wrap, but the sure way is good old dodger size 0 with 36 inch leader and 4/0 red or black hook. Soft leader material seems to work best. smile

If you plan on taking pictures, I recomend using BLACK & WHITE film. laugh laugh laugh

Easy, do you have a sockeye setup that I can use or can you show me how to tie them? ( Maybe a website with some info?)

Thanks. Do you buy yours or make them? If you make them care to show me how you do it?

Cool, thanks. I am going to bring a couple of kwikfish and some wiggleworts as well as the assortment of lures that I had last Friday.

Mike, Carl, what do you recommend for jigging?

LMAO, Cigar! laugh Black and white film, heh heh

Oh, yeah. For those lake Sammy kingers don't forget to use the flash on your camera and a little bright sunlight doesn't hurt either. wink

Actually, there is the occasional semi-bright king to be caught in Lake Sammy, but with the hot weather and high lake temps this year it's more than likely they will be blacker than the ace of spades! eek

Still nice to have a recreational fishery for them nonetheless. Lates

Not really planning on keeping them or smoking them unless maybe really remote chance of getting one that is a little lighter than the background on this website! laugh :p We are just wanting to get out and get some exercise ( bringing them in of course) and have some fun. Might not get anything but who cares....worst day fishing is better than best day working after all.... cool

Busy, I don't know what to use for jigging. Maybe a good ol' fashion Pt. Wilson Dart?

Maybe. I asked because Mike intends to jig if too slow for kings. I am thinking on having some fun with an ultralite and some perch. Gotta be o.k. with you two.

I have not done the panfish thing before. I don't know if we will have enough day light to do everything (troll, jig, panfish).

The panfish thing can be a lot of fun, just like the rock fishing we did in Elliott Bay. Just a lot of action. We will have to do it sometime if we don't get the chance this tim. Ultralite gear is the way to go.

Regarding the LW coho, two setups have worked well for me. One is the familiar sockeye setup but with a small piece of green yard and touch of shrimp scent. The other is green/yellow/red or reg tiger wigglewart. Last year I had each of these two rigs in the water and had a double header. Set the hook and handed the first pole to my day, then took the second for myself. I gave him the wrong pole... He got a 14 lb coho on the wigglewart. I got a 4-5 lb coho on the sockeye setup.

The moochers seem to do real well, and I believe they're mooching with buzz bombs. I prefer to troll. I'm sure I'll offend some folks, but I just have been able to bring myself to mooch that way. I see these guys taking full rips, and I see lots of snags. Doesn't seem quite right to me...

First week of October was peak. The fishery seems to only yield fish for about a week as well. They bite fast and hard and then it's done.
