They (dfw) opened up sturgeon again saturday. October and November are almost always my most productive months and iwas skunked twice in a row. Six shakers for two days with six rods. Unfortunatly the gillnetters had almost a solid month at them in October. They are allowed 5 a day per boat and this is while it is closed to the sportsmen. Its just plain ff'n ridiculous that they close it for sportsmen under the guise of overharvesting which is fine, im all for that, but then they turn around and let the gillnetters clean em out. Just maddening.

Dan,

Went out west of Longview Saturday....3 rods, 4 hours, 12 shakers and 1 44 incher that didn't get away...not to shabby of a day.
Have you heard the rumor that the dfw is considering lowering the 15,000 fish quota by 25% next year? Let's see, maybe a 3 month season next year instead of the 5 month we got this year....and how much sense does it make to even allow one day of gillnetting a species of fish that has no hatchery program to rebuild the depleting stocks....insane I say!!! beathead

Just have to say one blurb on the apple cup...Way to go Dawgs!!! Way to "coug it" cougs

Fish on!

Hey guys. I just started fishing for gators last year so I am really green. We did great late last February fishing near Rooster Rock, and got a peeler up by the Fishery in July. But where do I fish for keepers at this time of the year? Rooster Rock, the Fishery, by the cooling tower? And what bait? Will last season's smelt still work, or is there another bait of choice for winter fishing?

Any info would be appreciated.

powerstroke, i would fish anywhere on the columbia you will have luck. use smelt and shrimp and throw in some squid. i fished rooster rock last weekend and got one keeper for two rods in 2.5 hrs. good luck.

i agree that it crap how they let the gill netters have their own season. how can we change this. we talk about this enough but it seems like there is something we can do to complain to.
