New to this board. Trying to get some information on the Nisqually River. Recently read a report that WDFL is expecting over 3 million chum in the south sound area. Anyone heard anything going on at the Nisqually River yet?

Been keeping a close eye on the Nasty for the past 2 weeks from the I-5 gravel bar, Franks Landing area, Mounts Road area and the handicap fishing area and, to date, there is absolutely nothing showing. Give it a few more weeks

According to the fishing rules the Nisqually will close on Nov 30. I have not found anything about extending it on the fish and game site. We may be out of luck this year.

BW,
That closure is for trout and other gamefish, salmon is open until Jan 31, 03. Even though "they"predict "millions and millions" of chum to return to the south sound the parent group of this years nasty run was not very good. I do not expect to see a banner run on the nasty this year. Oh ya, JMHO!!!
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff laugh laugh

1 of those 3 million chums returns to the Hatchery Zone on Hood Canal. That is already a done deal. The Zone is dead now. The Nisqually fish usually return later in the year, end of December to January.

Well Heck, The Carbon closes Nov 30th for Salmon, the Puyallup is still open but is dead. Is there anything else near Pierce County that is worth fishing until the chum hit the Nisqually in December?

The Green get a good run of chums. There is always Hood Canal, south of Potlatch SP.

Ahh I forgot about the Green. Hood Canal sounds like a good bet too. Just not sure I want to travel that far this holiday weekend.
Thanks for the info.
