Any Nextel wireless users out there? How's the coverage. My cell plan is up for renewal soon and Nextell is offering some interesting incentives to switch to them. But it looks like their coverage sucks outside the I-5 corridor. Any coastal folks have luck with them? Tks much.

nextel sucks. limited coverage outside of i-5. i have 5 phones with verizon, and they have coverage just about everywhere.there are other companies with slightly better calling plans, but their coverage is not very good. my verizon phone got out last year at rivers inlet. p.s. lets go fishing b. gray

I also have verizon, and the coverage has been pretty good. i work for a survey company, and we are out in the middle of NOWHERE more often than not and most of the time we get service. but, i think there will always be those dead areas. overall though we've been very happy with it. smile

Yup, I'm with Verizon right now and have been happy with their coverage - especially around Forks where my friends with other companies have a hard time getting calls out. I was looking at Nextel because they're offering a bunch of FF miles. Sounds like it's not worth it though. I do wish somebody could cover the Tarheel valley though...

Bardo: I'm ready when you are. I'll drop you a line.

I have mine with AT&T wireless and it doesn't work well outside of the metro area. My brother has US Cellular and his always seems to work. I plan to switch to either Verizon or Cingular. Verizon in the #1 provider and Cingular is number 2.

Look into the technology used be each. Verizon uses CDMA and this is based off military technology. Can't remember what Cingular uses, but ATT used GMS ( I believe) and they are currently upgrading their system as it is older technology, which may explain why their phones don't work well in areas covered by other people.

A large part of SW wash is covered by US Cellular so you may want to check into them and see what they use, but I would guess it is the same or compatible with Verizon.

Just some info I have learned in the last couple of weeks while trying to decide who to switch too.

I was told that Cingular is coming out with a new phone in May that is supposed to be the cats meow. they claim it will work on all the providers technology ( both digital and analogue) and therefore you should be able to get a signal anywhere you are.

Nextel is the worst, it will not work outside of a mile on either side of I-5, i live right next to I-5, i could throw a rock and hit the center lane, and i have to stand in one spot in my house, by the backslider and turn to the south. and freeze, it will get a weak signal, also they really suck inside of buildings, you can stand next to someone and they won't get your call, mainly cause its a repeater signal, out to a dish and back to the person your calling. don't waste your time or money, maybe in a few years they'll figure out a solution. i have att now but am thinking of going to verizon, if i can get a better deal, laugh

Body Sock cover makes it rainproof (still can't swim). laugh laugh laugh
